Oslo University Hospital
Oslo University Hospital (OUH) is a highly specialized teaching and research hospital in charge of both local and regional hospital assignments for the citizens of Oslo (1 million inhabitants) and the South-Eastern Norway region (2.9 million inhabitants). The ALS clinic at Department of Neurology provides the largest ALS multidisciplinary team in Norway, having high quality standard of diagnosis and specialized follow-up for ALS patients and their families. We treat up to 80 ALS patients yearly, where some patients also come from regions outside of Oslo. Having long experience in clinical and basic research activities in other neurodegenerative- and neuromuscular diseases, we have now established a local ALS registry and biobank aiming to set up research projects in ALS. Our main research interests are within epidemiology, neurophysiology, genomics, transcriptomics and neuroimaging (member of NiSALS). We are in close collaboration with professor Joel Glover at the University of Oslo, who is working on iPS cell modeling in ALS. Our department also has its own Neuroscience Clinical Trial Unit with trained staff, study coordinators and other needed facilities to conduct clinical trials for ALS patients.
